Bespoke tailoring
Consider some of the topics below when searching for a custom suit.
Price
Unlisted or hidden prices.
We have a no-surprise pricing policy for a reason: to keep pricing clear and predictable for our customers.
Note: Surcharges for premium materials, big‑and‑tall clients, or rush orders are indicated where possible in our T&Cs, and we’ll confirm the final price with you before you place the order.
Construction
The term ‘made-to-measure’ is commonly used for garments made from a standard pattern with modifications rather than fully custom tailoring. So check what you are getting carefully.
When we say tailoring, this is made from scratch, based on your measurements, and unique to you.
Quality
Some firms will use synthetic blends or wool, but durability can be an issue. Others use higher-quality materials.
Sometimes the best way to judge is to get a suit from each company and see the quality for yourself.
We curate our range carefully and work with a select group of suppliers and resellers. Durability depends on more than just the fabric composition; many other factors influence how long a suit lasts.
Timing
Timeframes quoted by other competitors vary; they are typically similar to ours, but please verify before proceeding.
Expect 4–6 weeks until your first fitting, depending on the season.
We also offer an urgent-order option for an extra fee, which isn’t offered by most others.
Ready to wear
Price & quality
Competitors generally fall into two categories: either significantly more expensive with fabrics of comparable quality to ours, or somewhat cheaper but of markedly lower quality or comprised of synthetic materials.
We don’t change prices often, but when we do, we compare against both categories and keep our pricing in the mid-range, while quality at the higher end of the spectrum.
Sizing
Usually it’s standard sizing — what we’d call off-the-rack. Some pieces are pitched as made-to-measure but end up being ready-to-wear.
We have developed a proprietary sizing system derived from data gathered from over 10,000 custom suits made for the New Zealand market, reflecting its demographic profile distinct from the like of Europe, the UK, and the USA.
If you typically buy off-the-rack, our sizing is likely to fit you better. We invite you to book a fitting to verify the fit for yourself.
Colors/Styling
Customers choose from the remaining stock.
Sometimes finding sizes or colors can be a challenge, specially when it comes to wedding group.
The primary advantages when using us, include: a broad spectrum of color choices, an extensive range of sizes, included style customization, and certain adjustments offered at a minimal cost relative to purchasing the garment and having it altered subsequently. As we do not hold stock and make everything from scratch.
Timing
Try it, buy it. Pick up the same day or get it delivered.
The main trade-off is that we craft it from scratch to order, so it takes around 3–4 weeks.
Alterability
Most mass-produced suits don’t have much extra fabric inside. To save material, manufacturers minimize the seam allowances. As a result, alterations are usually limited to taking in or shortening certain parts; letting out or lengthening is typically not possible.
All of our items are made to order, and we leave ample fabric inside to accommodate adjustments later if needed. If you request specific alterations during production, we can implement them at a substantially lower cost than making changes after purchase, whether by us or by a third party.
For wedding parties, we provide flexible options: hire for some, and ready-to-wear or tailored options for others, depending on need, budget, and lead time.
Suit Hire
Price
Can be significantly higher. Some also charge for last minute booking.
We keep it fairly affordable.
Availablitly
Most suppliers buy inventory in bulk, so the available sizes can be limited.
Some also draw stock from one centralised location, which make delivery/ fitting become difficult.
We make our own suit hire. So if timing allowed, we can always create more to fill demand.
Sizing
Usually it’s standard sizing—what we’d call off-the-rack.
We have developed our own sizing system based on years of experience tailoring custom suits for the local New Zealand market. This ensures a better fit and accommodates diverse ethnicities, ages, and body shapes.
For wedding parties, we provide flexible options: hire for some, and ready-to-wear or tailored options for others, depending on need, budget, and lead time.
This is particularly helpful when some members of the wedding party have difficulty finding standard sizes that fit.
